- Why San Pedro de Alcántara?
San Pedro de Alcántara has grown enormously in recent years and has become very popular. In the past the city was separated from the coast by the N340 (A-7) and a long strip of uninhabited land, but meanwhile the land between the promenade and the beach has been transformed into a lively area with many buildings and facilities and is now called Nueva Alcántara.
One of the most famous places in San Pedro de Alcántara is the promenade. This is a park/boulevard that was built over the coastal road that runs through the city. Since its opening in 2014, it has become the hallmark of the city and is a very pleasant place to stroll with family. There are up to 6 different playgrounds for children and there is also a wavy pedestrian bridge on the promenade that reflects the sea. The present playgrounds are very well maintained and are suitable for children of all ages. In addition to the many playgrounds there is also an amphitheater built, where performances are regularly organized and along the boulevard you will also find cozy bars and restaurants.
El paseo maritimo de San Pedro is also a nice place to be. Here you will find several chiringuitos and other beach facilities. It is pleasant for walking and cycling, because it is never overcrowded.
In San Pedro you can also visit El Ingenio. This used to be a sugar cane factory founded in 1870, but today it is called la Casa de Cultura and serves as a cultural center.

Extra tip: Be sure to visit Café Belga. Here you will of course find Belgian beers, and you can eat typical Belgian dishes in “tapas style”.
What used to be a farming community growing sugar cane, has grown tremendously in recent years into a fresh and lively town. Despite the many innovations such as the large boulevard, there is still an authentic atmosphere. In San Pedro itself you have everything at hand, but if you want to discover the glamorous side of the Costa del Sol a bit more, you are only 10 minutes drive away in Puerto Banús and 15 minutes drive in Marbella.
