- Why Estepona?
Estepona is considered part of “the golden triangle”, next to the beautiful Benahavís and the glamorous Marbella. What was once a fishing village has grown into a thriving city that still has a beautiful Andalusian vibe. The white authentic houses, the beautiful beaches and the pleasant atmosphere make Estepona a top location for people who enjoy the finer things in life.
Estepona town is also called “the garden of the Costa del Sol”. When visiting the city, you will immediately notice that there is a lot of green here. Here you will find numerous murals of flowers, flowerpot-covered facades and even a botanical garden. Make sure you visit Plaza de las Flores, and enjoy the beautiful view of the lush flowers on one of the terraces!
In addition to the historic part of the city, the port of Estepona is also a major attraction. This is one of the most important places for bars, restaurants and clubs. From here you can make fishing excursions or trips to the Mediterranean Sea to spot dolphins. There is also a market every Sunday where craft products are sold.
3. Culinary delights
Both in the port and in the historic centre of Estepona there are many good restaurants. While you will find a wide range of international cuisines in the harbour, you can always enjoy the Mediterranean cuisine in other places.
To start with, Sabores Gourmet is a very pleasant restaurant located close to the coast. Here you will find a very good price-quality ratio and you can enjoy delicious tapas in combination with the best wines.
Another nice tapas bar that can be found in the historic centre of Estepona is La Casa del Rey. This is a wine bar/restaurant that has been serving unique wines since 2012, along with delicious dishes and tapas.
Are you looking for a good seafood restaurant? Then we recommend Los Rosales. This is a small typical fish restaurant located near Plaza de las Flores, in the historic part of Estepona. Their dishes are delicious and the service very smooth and friendly.
Finally, we would also like to mention Rosatti. This is an Italian restaurant, located in the port of Estepona. Here you can enjoy delicious Italian dishes from the outside terrace overlooking the harbour, or from the side terrace with a tropical garden.
Estepona, with its 70,000 inhabitants, is a lively city, but not predominantly crowded. Anyone looking for a traditional Spanish place that offers all the benefits of the Costa del Sol will certainly feel at home here. Estepona has all the facilities you need, from blue flag beaches to the shops and restaurants in the harbour and the city centre. Here you will feel that life is still all about being with friends and family. Especially when you go to Plaza de las Flores, you will notice that it is always filled with people staying in one of the cafes or having a chat on one of the benches on the square.
In Estepona town you will find many nice bars and clubs where you can go out for an evening. Whether you want to enjoy a delicious cocktail in a lounge or prefer to go on the dance floor, it’s all possible!
At Tolone, for example, you can spend a pleasant evening in the lounge, near Playa de la Cala. Here they are specialized in cocktails!
Would you like to enjoy live music? Then make sure to visit Louie Louie, this nice bar is located at the harbour of Estepona.
At La Pepa you can both relax in the lounge on the outside terrace and go out on the dance floor inside. This bar is also situated at the harbour of Estepona.
Estepona is a nice town for those who like shopping. Here there is a wide range of local and commercial shops, which can be found in various locations.
Those who like to have everything at hand can go to Laguna Village. This shopping centre is located close to the coast and offers numerous top brands. In addition to shopping, you can also have lunch or dinner here and even relax in the accompanying beach club.
In the city centre you will find more local shops selling nice craft products. You can also buy fresh fruit and vegetables or nice gifts and jewellery at the Sunday market in the harbour.
7. Sports & Leisure
Estepona town is situated close to the Sierra Crestellina and the Natural Park Los Reales de Sierra Bermeja. Here you can hike or mountain bike and enjoy nature to the fullest. One of the highest mountains so close to the sea is located in the Sierra Bermeja. In addition, the Sierra Crestellina is a protected nature reserve and a paradise for birdwatchers.
Another nice natural spot is the Selwo Safari Park. This park covers 100 hectares and is home to more than 2,000 animals from the five continents. The animals live in freedom and live in their natural habitat.
If you prefer a bit more sport in the sea, Estepona also offers diving, fishing, surfing, sailing and so on. At the harbour you will find plenty of opportunities for water sports.
8. Beaches & Beach Clubs
The two beaches closest to Estepona centre are Playa del Cristo and Playa de la Rada.
Playa del Cristo is located just next to the harbour and is a very child-friendly beach. It lies in a sheltered bay where the sun shines for hours. On the beach you will find two beach bars, the trendy Havana Beach and the more traditional chiringuito Lolailo, and the beach also carries a blue EU flag, which means it is of high quality.
Playa de la Rada can be found on the other side of the port of Estepona. Along this beach there is a promenade of 2.6 kilometres, which is equipped with many chiringuitos. Traditional dishes such as paella and fresh sardines are served here, but there is also a choice of dishes in an international style. This beach has also been awarded an EU blue flag.
