Properties with a price tag of more than 1 million euros are scattered throughout Spain and all 50 provinces have at least one. But prime homes tend to concentrate in certain areas…and one of those is the Costa del Sol, which currently has more than 23% of the total. It is also the enclave with the highest number of luxury homes in Spain.
That’s according to a survey by Idealista.

Costa del Sol has the highest concentration of luxury homes
A recent study by the online real estate portal Idealista examined prime residential properties in Spain. To be specific, only properties with an asking price of at least 1 million euros were included in the survey. In total, there were 36,368 of them.
The vast majority of properties are located in just four parts of the country: the Costa del Sol, the Balearic Islands, Madrid and Barcelona. Together, this quartet accounts for 73% of the luxury market.
Within these four, the Costa del Sol and the Balearic Islands take the lion’s share. The province of Malaga accounts for 23.1% of the total and the Balearic Islands come in second with 22.9%. Both Madrid and Barcelona are considerably further behind with 15.1% and 12% respectively.

Most ultra-high-end properties are on the Costa del Sol
In some parts of the Costa del Sol, high-end real estate is the norm. This is the case in the so-called Golden Triangle, which consists of Benahavís, Estepona and Marbella. It is therefore no surprise to discover that when it comes to ultra-luxury properties in Spain, the Costa del Sol also occupies a central position.
In total, there were 2,216 properties on the Costa del Sol on the market with a price tag of more than 3 million euros. This is the highest number in Spain and clearly better than its nearest competitor.
The number of ultra-luxury homes in the province of Malaga amounted to more than a third (36.8%) of those in Spain. The 1,937 premium homes in the Balearic Islands accounted for 32.2% of the total.
