Mijas is booming
Mijas is located between Fuengirola and Marbella. It is clearly quieter than both cities and therein lies the potential. The area will become more and more popular which will make the area even more attractive. For example, hotel La Zambra is planning to open in June 2022 and has already been put in the list of ‘most exciting openings’ by Forbes.
“The legendary Byblos hotel first opened in 1984 and will be reborn in the spring as La Zambra, part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt,” writes Forbes.
After its complete transformation, provided by Majorcan architecture studio Esteva i Esteva, have 197 rooms; three pools; and a wellness center. The hotel is located near two 18-hole golf courses.
Byblos has been closed since 2015. The reopening of La Zambra will create at least 200 new jobs in Mijas.
Joost Kruissen, general manager of La Zambra, says: “We are very proud to have appeared so early in Forbes magazine’s list of Europe’s most exciting new hotels in 2022. It’s a very ambitious project; the rebirth of an iconic hotel the old Byblos, symbolizing the hedonistic luxury of the 80s and 90s, with a great history as the preferred accommodation for royalty and the elite at the end of the 20th century.”
La Zambra features 197 rooms, restaurants, a wellness center and spa, recreational areas and a private room for meetings and events.
Previous guests have included Princess Diana, the Rolling Stones, Antonio Banderas and the Saudi royal family.
